         Sichuan Polyester Co.,Ltd. (SPCL),based on the Sichuan Polyester Project which is one of the key projects included in the State Eighth "Five-Year Plan",was founded in May,1993 with the approval of the Sichuan Provincial Pepople's Government. SPCL is jointly sponsored by Sichuan Provincial Investment Group Co.,Ltd.,Sichuan Provincial Textile Group CO.,Ltd, and Zigong investment Co. With the total stock of around RMB430 million yuan in December,1999,China Cinda Asset Management Corporation began to hold the stock of around RMB499 million yuan. SPCL's fixed assets amount to RMB 1.13 billion yuan and its total investment reaches RMB 1.47 billion yuan.
          At present ,there are 1,030 employees working in SPCL,among whom 320 employees are graduates from universities or polytechnical colleges and 117 employees hold the senior or middle technical titles. The annual output value per capita is RMB 0.83 million yuan.
          SPCL is the unique polyester producter designated by the state in southwest China. In 1999,SPCL was assessed to be one of the largest 50 industrial enterprises in Sichuan province. SPCL has been approved to be a "developing-type"enterprise by the State Textile Industry Administration, the Sichuan Provincial and Zigong Municipality People's Governments.
          SPCL is equipped with a polyester chip production line with the capacity of 66,000 tons per year, a chip-spinning polyester filament production line with capacity of 10,000 tons per year and a polymer direct-spun staple fibre production line with the capacity of 15,000 tons per year. The main production facilities are imported from aboad.

• Equipment procurement by Mitsubishi Canada

          Filament Production Line:

• POY by EMS-inventa AG technology (Switzerland)
• POY equipment by Barmag AG(Germany)
• DTY machines by Rieter-Scragg. (UK)

          Polytester Staple Fibre Production Line:

• Mature domestic technology and equipment
• All production lines are running at full load and the products are of high quality and are good sellers in domestic markets.

          SPCL is now planning to expand its capacity by carrying out the following projects:

• l 40,000 tons per year staple fibre
• l 140,000 tons per year polyester

          These two projects are scheduled to be completed before 2005, by which time SPCL will be the largest base in West China for producting polyester and chemical fibre and its products are most competitive.
